  • An effective way to train college students

  • We recruit college and technical school students from different universities to enrich enterprise every year, but the students come to our shipyard in previous years almost left. Why does this happen? Of course income and working condition are the essential factors, but there exists another reason- these college students feel enterprise pay no attention to them, leaders ignore them and don’t cultivate them as the enterprise backbone, so the idea to choose other industries come out. Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. Leadership led by Song Shuming know this situation and realize that it may be something wrong with the cultivation methods. We are responsible to cultivate college students into the people who are useful to enterprise and society as long as we recruit them. Therefore, we have formulated a set of training rules for colleage students who enter into our enterprise. After one year’s practice, the method applied now is effective and has achieved initial success. Now let’s make a discussion on these practices.

     

    Firstly, a welcome meeting will be carried out as to those college and secondary students who enter into our company, leaders of department and company will all attend this meeting. Our shipyard will select masters for them and attend the meeting together with them. An indenture between apprentice and master will be signed at the meeting, student representatives and master representatives will speak at the meeting. Finally, leaders of the company will make a statement. On one hand, company build up a platform for them to develop their ability and on the other hand company encourage them to make efforts for the development of the company

     

    Secondly, in order to have an idea about the work, thought and life of the college students after they come to the industry, both apprentices and masters are asked to write practice summary which be submitted to the General Manager for reviewing. The General Manager will mark grades as “optimal” excellent” “good” on the practice report., people who get “optimal+” excellent” will be rewarded. In the meantime, points-based system will be carried out as to practice summary. “optimal+” gets 2scores , ”excellent” gets 1 score and “good” gets no score. Every one will be promoted, awarded and determined the post according to the scores after expiration of the internship.

     

    Thirdly, in order to exercise their ability of expressing and communicating, in order to achieve the purpose of fast convergence and mutually exaltation, and as well as to find professional talents, the company hold a symposium for college and secondary students on the 15th of every month. The representatives of the students and masters who get “optimal+” will read out their monthly practice summary at the meeting and share what they have seen what they have learned what they have thought and what they have felt during the internship, boosting the spiritual joy and a sense of achievement. General Manager, section chief and masters must attend the symposium, thus distance on mind between them and leadership has been shortened by this means, and make the leaders know their ideological trend and communication ability at the same time. Sometimes students not arranged to speak are initiative to speak, making the atmosphere lively. The company also arranges college students who came to the industry two years ago and now are in the key position to make a statement and encourage the students to work hard.

     

    Fourthly, in order to cultivate them into useful timber, the company adopts the rotational form for internship that shifts every three months and the total time is a year with four posts rotated, which plays a vital role in their understanding of the operation and management of the company. Cadres have such evaluation: they have found that these students work particularly serious and positive from workshop piece post to management post, so carry out job rotation system is the effective way to cultivate talents fastly and comprehensively. The first batch of rotational training college students will confront position setting in July of this year, there have been several departments asking these college students to go to their own departments.

     

    Company recruits a large number of college students to fill in each position every year. It’s an important target for company to train the green hand to talent as soon as possible. All above are few new methods explored by old factory to train new employed student, and these ways can make the undergraduates feel company  always pay attention to them, care about them, training them to stimulate their enthusiasm for work.
